Advice for Life
Know when it's more important to give in than to keep the fight going. Sometimes you'll win an argument; sometimes you'll lose one. But is it
really all that important whether you win or lose? Are you keeping score? Relationships aren't competitions. Give in once in a while. It's good for the soul.
Learn to make decisions or someone else will make them for you. I'm a very strong decision maker; maybe even too strong, because I have too many people in my life
who rely on me to make most decisions. That's not only tiring for me, but it's not healthy for them. So the next time you're tempted to ask someone else to tell you
what to do or what to say, stop. Think it through. See if you can come to your own decision. If you want confirmation at first, tell the other party what decision you've
made first. Then ask them for their assessment. If they agree, score one for you. If they disagree, ask them for their reasons, but retain your right to keep your
original decision or to change it based on their input.
Pay it forward. When you do a good deed for someone, tell them not to pay you back later. Tell them to "pay it forward" by doing a good deed for someone else
as soon as they have the chance. If everyone made a habit of "paying it forward", life would be so much happier for everyone.
