Advice for Life
Lower Your Voice - Many young girls, and women too, speak with high pitched voices. When you use your higher voice, you don't get as
much respect and your voice is very difficult to listen to for any length of time. Why do you think broadcasters, both male and female, all use low pitched voices? It's
because low voices are pleasant on the ears of the listeners. Lower voices will command respect and mature women usually use lower voices naturally. When you're angry, a lower softer voice will get the attention of your spouse or other persons much more
effectively than a high, shrill voice.
You Won't Win Every Time - Have you ever challenged your child to a contest and deliberately let the child win? As parents we do this to
make the contest fun for the child and to teach them competitive skills and give their self image a boost. But sometimes it's good to let the child lose. While they
may burst into tears because of it, you say to them, "You won't win in life all the time, but it's the experience that counts." I would add to that, that winning isn't
everything. It's the process that matters and that you put forth the effort. And so it is in business too. You've got to put for the effort if you expect to win. You won't win them all, but you'll get
your fair share.
Who's in Control? - When in business, as well as dealing with children, it's important to maintain control. As consultants in the redesign
and staging industries, we are the experts. So it is important for us to set the
stage for all meetings and control the process. Business clients, just like your
children, need boundaries. They feel relaxed and comfortable and safe when boundaries are in place. Always let them know you are in control, but do so in loving, caring
ways.
