Rules for Garden Tools
These are some of the tools you should definitely have in your garage or tool shed for
gardening. They are essentials. But there are some tools you can do without.
First, here are the keepers:
Shovel - a spade shaped end makes digging holes in hard soil easier - can also cut tough underground roots easier too
Clippers - get the ones that are ergonomically designed - come for right or left handed users
Three Pronged Cultivator - for comfortable grip, get the one with a thick, soft-textured handle
Leather Gloves - they are better than cotton or synthetics for protecting your hands - size them right - look for softness for when working with small plants
Rake - use a metal one, not a bamboo or plastic rake
Hand Trowel - also has contoured tip for digging small holes or working with container plants
Discard the following:
- Cracked Tools - these are dangerous and not very effective anyway
- Cotton Gloves - won't protect you against prickly things and don't last long anyway
- Badly Fitting Clippers - if they don't fit they will give you blisters and/or cramps
- Broken Rakes - forces you to take longer to move soil or weeds
